About Stone Axe

A working estate on the Campaspe River.

Stone Axe is a 250-acre working estate at Redesdale in Central Victoria, with almost two kilometres of Campaspe River frontage. The property includes a vineyard and winery, olive grove, orchard, gardens, native bushland and accommodation.

The estate

A property in development.

Stone Axe is being progressively rebuilt and developed as a working estate. That includes new accommodation, walking tracks, improvements to the vineyard and productive areas, and a series of native-planted pools following the natural drainage line toward the river. Much of the work is being undertaken by us on the property and will continue over the coming years.

The vineyard and gardens

What we grow and produce.

Stone Axe currently includes five acres of vineyard, 200 olive trees, more than 70 orchard trees and eight raised garden beds. We grow and make our wines on the estate and produce our own olive oil. The vineyard will expand over time, with Riesling among the next plantings, while livestock, bees and other estate produce will progressively become part of the property.

The Campaspe

Nearly two kilometres of the Campaspe River.

Stone Axe has approximately 1.8 kilometres of frontage to the Campaspe River. We are also progressively reworking the property's natural drainage line into a series of native-planted pools leading toward the river, improving both the landscape and habitat through the centre of the estate.

Plans for the land

Managing the property for the long term.

We manage the productive and native areas of Stone Axe as one property. Gardens are being replanted with species suited to the Central Victorian climate, shelter belts and riverbank areas are being restored, and the native bushland is being retained and improved as habitat for local wildlife.

We’re preparing the Main House and planning two private tiny houses as a base for exploring Redesdale and the Heathcote wine region. Guests will be able to visit the Stone Axe cellar door by appointment. Bookings aren’t open yet.
